In designing Brochu Walker’s first flagship store in Korea, our primary consideration was how to preserve the brand’s distinctive aesthetic while creating a space that could feel inherently rooted in Seoul. We began with the qualities that define Brochu Walker — restraint, natural ease, and an enduring sense of beauty. Rather than simply translating the brand’s existing visual language into a new location, we sought to subtly introduce materials and sensibilities that reflect the Korean context.

Korean influences were expressed through material and color rather than through a direct reproduction of traditional forms. Hanji, traditional Korean paper, was incorporated throughout the space, gently filtering light and creating a subtle sense of depth. A restrained shade of red, drawn from the colors of Dancheong, the traditional decorative painting found in Korean architecture, adds another quiet reference to the local context.

Brochu Walker’s idea of Timelessness also became a guiding principle in the selection of materials and details. Brass and leather were used throughout the space for their ability to evolve over time, gradually developing variations in tone, texture, and traces of use. Rather than remaining fixed at the moment of completion, these materials gain character with age — reflecting the brand’s belief in values that endure beyond passing trends.

Spatially, the design focuses on subtraction rather than addition. Open surfaces, restrained lines, fluid circulation, and moments of emptiness create a quiet backdrop in which the clothing, objects, and people can take center stage.

Ultimately, the project brings Brochu Walker’s sense of restraint and natural ease together with the context of its first Korean flagship — introducing subtle references to place through material, color, light, and detail.
