Designers Olesya Gelman-Dobrovolskaya and Ekaterina Subbotina designed and completed the interior of a two-level penthouse with sea views. It was important to create a calm interior, free from visual noise. The style can be described as warm minimalism, where the focus is on materials, light, and proportions.

The clients — a couple who visit Sochi several times a year — envisioned the space as a place to recharge and spend time by the sea. The project was conceived as a retreat focused on quietness, light, and a sense of inner balance.

The main task was to unify the penthouse’s volumes into a cohesive whole while clearly organizing functional zones according to the clients’ needs. The result is a two-level composition: the upper floor is dedicated to public areas — a spacious entrance hall, walk-in wardrobe, guest bathroom, utility rooms, a compact yet fully equipped kitchen-bar, and a large living room with panoramic glazing and access to open terraces. The lower level is reserved for private spaces, including bedrooms, walk-in wardrobes, and bathrooms.

The interior is defined by a calm, light palette. The color scheme is based on the natural tones of the landscape visible through the panoramic windows. Walls and ceilings are finished in a clay pale shade — a tone reminiscent of bleached clay. Microcement floors in the same color have a tactile quality similar to warm sand, allowing the space to be perceived as continuous and unified. The emphasis is placed on architectural plasticity and the combination of tactile materials — marble, Brazilian granite, decorative plaster, natural wood, and metal. Vintage furniture, lighting, and artworks add an additional layer to the interior.

Materials act as the primary expressive element in the project. Columns and a curved wall separating the living room from technical spaces are finished with decorative plaster featuring a crackle effect and gold mica inclusions, which softly shimmer in the evening light. The mirror in the entrance hall is framed in forged metal. The portal and kitchen countertop are made of Brazilian granite. The dining table and sideboard are veneered in wood, bar stools are crafted from natural wood, and the benches are made of solid timber.

The kitchen is finished with a metallic-effect coating that reflects light and changes its appearance throughout the day. Bathroom vanities are made of marble and wood, while the wardrobe fronts in the master bedroom are covered with natural linen, adding softness and tactile depth to the interior.
